Frame Adjustments
& Fitting

Your glasses should feel like they're barely there. If they're sliding, pinching, or sitting crooked, that's a fit problem, not a you problem. Linda can fix it.

Most people don't realize how much a proper fit changes everything. Glasses that sit too low push your prescription out of alignment. Frames that pinch behind the ears become unwearable by afternoon. Temples that flare out cause constant sliding that frustates to no end.

A skilled optician can correct all of this. It takes the right tools, an understanding of how different frame materials behave, and a trained eye for proportion. Linda has been doing this for years. It's one of the things she loves most about the work.

Is Your Fit Off?

If any of these sound familiar, come in:

  • Glasses slide down your nose, especially when you look down or move quickly
  • Pressure or pain behind your ears. The temples are too tight or angled wrong
  • One side sits higher than the other. Frames are often uneven from a bent temple
  • Glasses sit too close to your face. Lenses fog up and lashes touch the lens
  • Glasses sit too far from your face. Your prescription isn't working at the right distance
  • Nose pads leave marks or dig in. Usually an incorrect nose pad angle or position
  • Frames feel loose and wobbly. Hinges or screws likely need attention
  • You're constantly pushing them up. The most common sign of a fit problem

Any single one of these is worth coming in for. All of them are fixable.

What a Professional Fitting Covers

Frame fitting isn't one thing. It's a series of small, precise corrections that work together.

Temple Arms

The arms that run over your ears are the most common source of fit problems. Linda adjusts the angle, the length, and the curve at the tip to make sure they sit comfortably without gripping.

Nose Pads

On metal frames with adjustable nose pads, the angle, height, and width are all adjustable. A small change here can completely transform how the frame sits and how your prescription performs.

Frame Alignment

Frames go out of alignment constantly — from being set down on one side, from being taken off with one hand, from everyday use. Linda checks that the frame sits level on your face and corrects any tilt.

Pupillary Alignment

Your eyes should look through the optical center of each lens. If the frame is sitting too low, too high, or off to one side, you're not getting the vision correction you paid for.

Hinge Tension

Loose hinges make frames feel unstable and cause them to sit unevenly. Linda can tighten screws and adjust hinge tension to restore a secure, solid feel.

Frame Reshaping

Acetate frames can be gently warmed and reshaped to better follow the contours of your face. This is especially useful for frames that were designed for a different head shape than yours.

Bought Your Frames Somewhere Else? That's Fine.

Linda adjusts frames from any source: other optical shops, online retailers, frames bought abroad, vintage finds. If you love the frame but it doesn't fit right, bring it in. Complimentary, no questions asked.

This is especially common with online purchases. The frame looks perfect on screen but the fit isn't quite right in person. We're happy to sort it out.

Fit Affects More Than Comfort

A poorly fitted frame isn't just uncomfortable. It affects how well you see.

Your prescription is calculated for a specific distance between the lens and your eye (called vertex distance) and a specific height alignment (called optical center height). When your frames slip down your nose or tilt off-axis, you're no longer looking through the part of the lens your prescription was designed for.

This is why some people get new glasses with a perfect prescription and still find themselves squinting or getting headaches. The prescription is right. The fit is wrong.

A proper fitting is the last step in getting your vision correction to actually work.

FAQ

Is frame adjustment free?
Always. Frame adjustments are complimentary whether you bought your frames at Optique or somewhere else. It's part of how we take care of people.
How long does a frame adjustment take?
Most adjustments take 10 to 20 minutes. We'll take the time to get it right, not just get it done.
Can you adjust any type of frame?
Most frames can be adjusted, including metal, acetate, titanium, and mixed materials. Some very rigid materials have limited adjustability. If a frame can't be meaningfully adjusted, Linda will tell you honestly.
My frames were adjusted elsewhere and still don't fit. Can you help?
Yes. Come in and Linda will assess the fit from scratch. Sometimes previous adjustments have overcorrected or addressed the wrong issue entirely.
Do I need to bring my lenses in too, or just the frames?
Bring the complete pair — lenses in the frames. Alignment is checked with lenses in place, and pupillary height can only be assessed that way.
Can you fix bent or damaged frames?
Depending on the damage, yes. Minor bending, misaligned temples, loose hinges — these are all common repairs. Severely damaged or broken frames may be beyond repair, but Linda will give you an honest assessment.
